Nut butters. They are one of my weaknesses. I'll take them smooth or crunchy, with something sweet or salty! So I'm particularly excited for this recipe which is a fun "make your own" spread. I call this my "balancing" spread because it features brazil nuts and flaxseeds, both which can help balance your hormones, along with other fantastic health benefits!

Brazil nuts are extremely high in the mineral selenium, which is good for thyroid function, immunity, acts as an antioxidant, and may also help with fertility. (1, 2)

Flaxseeds are high in omega-3's which help with inflammation, cholesterol and triglyceride levels, are excellent for your digestive health, and can help women maintain a regular cycle. (3)

Additionally, I add in a few more flavors, like cinnamon (another obsession of mine), which is a powerful antioxidant and great for blood sugar regulation. Coconut oil adds to the creaminess while contributing its positive fat property effects like stabilizing blood sugar and aiding in absorption of soluble fats.

Now you can see why all the fuss over this little nut butter, huh?

Isn't it lovely?

Okay, enough with the teasing.

Balancing Nut Butter

Ingredients:

1 Cup Almond or Peanut Butter

1 Cup Brazil Nuts, soaked overnight

1/4 Cup Coconut Oil

1/4 Cup Flax Seeds, freshly ground

1 tsp Cinnamon

1/4 tsp Sea Salt

1 tsp Vanilla Extract

Method

Drain off the water from soaking your brazil nuts and let dry. Place all ingredients in food processor and blend until desired consistency (creamy or crunchy). Place in jar and keep stored in refrigerator. Use 1-2 Tbsp per day as a healthy fat with a meal or snack :)
